JLP Secretariat recommends Delroy Williams to succeed Mike Henry in Clarendon Central
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Labour Party Secretariat has recommended former Kingston mayor Delroy Williams to replace Mike Henry as the party’s standard bearer in Clarendon Central ahead of the next general election.
Williams is currently the deputy mayor of Kingston and councillor for the Seiveright Gardens Division in St Andrew West Central.
Stating that Williams is the only applicant to be JLP standard bearer for the constituency, the JLP Secretariat said, “He has gained widespread support in the constituency. His organisational skills are well known and will enhance the legacy of the Jamaica Labour Party in Clarendon.”
Henry, a JLP stalwart who held the Clarendon Central seat for decades, is not expected to seek re-election after he indicated earlier this year that he would leave representational politics.
Following his announcement both the deputy mayor and the May Pen Mayor Joel Williams had expressed interest in the position.
Henry’s endorsement of Joel Williams had fuelled uncertainty surrounding who the party would choose as its standard bearer.
